Bell Cornwell Projects
Green Belt Residential and Mixed Use Conversion and Development
-
Wall Hall, Aldenham, Hertfordshire
Client: Octagon Developments Ltd
Architects: MLRS Architects
Local Authority: Hertsmere Borough Council
Bell Cornwell assisted Octagon Developments Ltd with
their complete refurbishment and landscape restoration of the Wall
Hall Mansion and grounds formerly used by the University of
Hertfordshire as a satellite campus.
The site lies in the green belt and having had a
Secretary of State call-in appeal which was dismissed, Bell Cornwell
negotiated with Hertsmere Council a development of 124 residential
units, a business centre, gym and community centre to create a small
community within a 50 acre landscaped setting. New footpaths and
areas of open space were created and important trees and ecological
assets were conserved.
This scheme shows what can be achieved when the
developer and the Council work closely together and have the
interests of design, conservation and landscaping at the forefront
of their decision making processes. The development has gone on to
achieve a National ‘Best Development’ award from the development
industry.
