Ian has practised town planning since July 1979, initially holding posts in local government with Surrey Heath Borough Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. He joined Bell Cornwell in 1987 and was made a Partner in March 2001.

He is involved in a broad range of planning work in both urban and rural locations throughout England, including central London, acting for private, public and corporate clients. His work is principally focused on development control, dealing with projects at the critical stages in the planning process. This includes initial site appraisals, planning applications and appeals. He has considerable experience in managing a development project team, engaging in negotiations with local planning authorities, and appearing as an expert witness at public inquiries or hearings. He is also active in promoting potential development sites and analysing draft planning policies through the LDF regime.

Ian is a chartered town planner having been elected as a Member of the RTPI in 1984. He holds a BA(Hons) degree in Economics and Geography and an MSc degree in Environmental Planning and Design.
