James McMurdo is an experienced dual qualified Town Planner and Surveyor with an extensive range of practice at a senior level across all development sectors. Recent experience includes four years working as a planning and development manager involved in the strategic growth around Exeter and East Devon. With an ability to lead, he can build influential relationships and control complex partnerships across a diverse range of organisations. He finds creative solutions to complex problems. James undertakes a variety of commercially based planning and development work and is able to broker a balance between what is visionary and what is commercially viable. In addition to providing planning services James, as a chartered surveyor, is also able to undertake appraisals, valuations and provide other forms of development advice.

He has been pivotal in:

• masterplanning and the implementation of three significant mixed use urban extensions feeding into viability aspects;
• an entrepreneurial partnership approach to deliver a combined heat and power plant to serve mass market housing (around 5000 houses) and a 40 Ha business park as part of a multi million pound front funding package, including Regional Funding Allocations (RFA), Growth Point grant money, Regional Infrastructure Funding (RIF), HCA funding and private investment from national house builders, regeneration companies and blue chip utilities companies. This experience has helped unlock barriers to the delivery of a suite of strategic developments in the Exeter area including Cranbrook New Town, the Monkerton and Newcourt Urban Extensions, Exeter Gateway Intermodal Freight Facility, the Sky Park business district and Exeter Science Park
