John was a founding Partner of Bell Cornwell in 1986. This followed a career in local government in North Tyneside, Sevenoaks and Rochford, and in private practice elsewhere.

His experience has encompassed the full range of planning work in a professional career spanning more than thirty years. John has worked throughout the UK, with the main focus being in Southern England. He advises developers, house builders, institutions and landowners on strategic development opportunities, and devising, managing and implementing strategies for promoting sites through the ever-increasing complexities of the planning system. He has given expert evidence at numerous hearings, public inquiries and examinations in public at all planning policy levels.

John is a Chartered Town Planner and was elected a Member of the RTPI in 1977, and made a Fellow in 1983. He has a degree in Town & Country Planning, and a Diploma in Management Studies with Distinction. He is a Member of the Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
