Ian Sowerby

Partner BA(Hons) MSc MRTPI

Ian joined Bell Cornwell in 1987 and became a Partner in March 2001. His specialism is development management, dealing with planning appraisals, applications and appeals, in both urban and rural locations – including central London – acting for private, public and corporate clients.

Ian enjoys the challenge of handling a full and varied case load, dealing with planning issues ranging from domestic extensions to major residential and commercial developments. He is also responsible for ensuring that our professional staff and clients are kept up to date with current and emerging planning legislation and practice.

Ian has practised town planning for more than 35 years, initially working in local government with Surrey Heath Borough Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council before joining Bell Cornwell.

Ian was educated at Manor Park Grammar School, Nuneaton, Middlesex University and Aston University, achieving BA (Hons) in Economics and Geography and MSc in Environmental Planning & Design. He was elected as a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1984.
