Bishops Wordsworth’s School, Salisbury

Bell Cornwell successfully obtained planning permission for extensions to the science block at Bishops Wordsworth’s school in Salisbury.

In response to local demand, the school was expanding to admit a fifth form of entry from September last year. The school felt that, because there is a high take up of the sciences at Key Stage 5 (A Level), extending the science block would be the most practical option and the best way to meet students’ educational needs.

Once the work on the science block is completed the school will then be able to;

  • Increase year group sizes from 128 to 160, thus enabling the school to grow by 32 pupils per year successively for the next five years.
  • Educate 800 pupils (160 more than at present) by 2022,
  • Increase office space resulting in improving the quality of accommodation for teaching staff and laboratory technicians whilst expanding teaching space,
  • Additional WC facilities.

The successful granting of planning permission will enable the school to both expand their educational spectrum and to welcome more pupils.
