This project involved the demolition of a redundant single-storey light industrial unit in an established commercial area and its replacement by a purpose-built self-storage unit, together with associated car parking, delivery areas and landscaping.
The new self-storage building has a total gross external area of 8316m², including three internal mezzanine levels, with an ancillary reception, office and plant room at ground floor level. The building’s layout is specifically designed to allow car-borne customers to park and access the building directly via the front entrance, with an additional loading bay for larger vehicles to the side.
The simple and well-proportioned building has an overall height of 15.0 metres to the top of the roof parapet, significantly higher than the one it will replace. It has a crisp modern appearance, whose materials palette is based upon Lok’n Store’s company colours of white, tangerine and silver, broken into sections to reduce the perceived scale of the building. There is a significant amount of glazing to its front and side elevations. It will be a distinctive modern addition to this well-established commercial location.
