Cornwall Neighbourhood Planning Update

A number of Neighbourhood Plan consultations are currently taking place across Cornwall with plan preparation continuing at pace. Engaging in the Neighbourhood Plan process can be a powerful way of influencing planning policy at a local level. For example, outside of the main towns and settlements in Cornwall (which are subject to their own Site Allocation Development Plan Document), Neighbourhood Plans offer a potential route to obtaining land allocations for a variety of uses or proposals.

A Neighbourhood Plan passes through various stages before it is adopted:

  1. Areas Designated
  2. Pre-submission Consultation
  3. Plan Proposal Submissions
  4. Examination
  5. Referendum
  6. Made
  7. Reviewing Made Plans

It is best to get involved as early as possible during the process to influence the Plan and to put forward your sites for development.

According to Cornwall Council’s Activity Map, the following Neighbourhood Planning groups are currently undertaking a Pre-submission Consultation which is the perfect opportunity for those with development interests in the area to promote their sites:

  • Carlyon
  • Deviock
  • Dobwalls
  • Egloshayle
  • Madron
  • Morval
  • Penzance
  • Perranarworthal
  • Perranuthnoe
  • St. Broek
  • St. Keyne and Trewidland
  • Wadebridge
