Update on Local Authority Covid-19 Working Practices

1st April 2020

Update from London – Ealing, Westminster and RBKC

Many London Borough Council processes in the Planning Departments are able to be undertaken using technology and remote working, however there are some aspects that make their work more difficult. In particular, issuing letters in the post to neighbours, holding planning committee meetings and making site visits. There is a ‘physical’ side to planning that cannot be done other than in person. Here are some local authority updates so far on progress and how different places respond to the crisis:

The London Borough of Ealing are working towards virtual committee meetings and are still undertaking consultation in the normal way, although comments can only be made online while post being received into the offices is not monitored. Face to face meetings, including pre-application meetings, can take place via conference calls.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are well set up to work remotely and contact has been made with Officers, however public consultation on all applications are currently on hold and committee meetings have all been cancelled so far. Applications will be on hold until a solution is found.

For Westminster City Council the Council are well prepared for remote working and undertaking public consultation. They will be doing virtual committee meetings with Members and continue to consult on applications

We continue to monitor and will post updates when they happen.
