Co-living Scheme: 133 Units in Exeter

Bell Cornwell have helped Watkin Jones secure planning permission for the redevelopment of a former ambulance station site in the Heavitree area of Exeter to provide a 133 studio co-living scheme.

Co-living is a relatively new concept of housing aimed primarily at providing rental accommodation for young professionals and skilled workers. This form of housing has the benefit of helping the city retain and expand its skill base. The scheme will provide high quality living accommodation alongside a mixture of dedicated communal residential and work space. It is also extremely well sited for its purpose, being close to the city centre and well served by shops, amenities and public transport.

The novel nature of the proposals meant that it was necessary to carry out extensive public consultation and to engage closely with officers and Council Members in order that the nature and benefits of the project were properly articulated. This approach meant that the scheme was designed in a way which aligned with City Council’s design and low carbon development objectives.
