Project Overview

Bell Cornwell have helped our client to secure planning permission for a stunning new home in the picturesque coastal village of Croyde in north Devon.

The existing building on the land is to be replaced by a beautiful and contemporary dwelling with an elongated curved design. Both the shape and the use of traditional and natural materials such as local stone and slate have been chosen to respond to and improve the character of the area.

The scheme is in a very prominent location, being on an elevated site on the edge of the village and within the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These sensitivities meant that great care had to be taken in the design and subsequent planning application to show how the house would both sit comfortably within the landscape and deliver an overall improvement relative to the character of the current property.

Importantly, the permission included approval to change the use of part of an adjacent field into garden, a critical facet of the scheme as it will allow the client greater enjoyment of the house and provide it with a setting appropriate to its quality and size.
