Applications Bell Cornwell’s London team has secured planning permission for 29 new homes and a new community centre for Haig Housing Trust, a UK housing charity providing affordable homes for former members of the British Armed Forces and their families.

The successful outcome enables Haig Housing Trust to provide more housing for their tenants. The project was achieved through close and constructive collaboration with planning and design officers at the London Borough of Merton. It was supported by detailed pre-application discussions throughout the planning process. This early engagement helped shape a proposal that responded positively to policy requirements and the site’s specific constraints.

A sensitive scheme in a conservation area
The proposals, designed by Formation Architects, deliver a high-quality and well-designed scheme that responds carefully to its context. Particular attention was paid to the challenges of developing a sympathetic site within a conservation area, ensuring that the scheme respects the character and appearance of the area while delivering much-needed affordable housing and a new community facility.

Importantly, planning permission was secured with no neighbour objections, and the application was approved under delegated powers – a clear endorsement of the quality of the scheme and the collaborative approach taken.
