Temporary stables at the historic Bicton Arena in East Budleigh has been approved by East Devon District Council

Project Overview

A planning application for temporary stables at the historic Bicton Arena in East Budleigh has been approved by the East Devon District Council. The consent allows applicant Clinton Devon Estates to erect up to 218 stables between 1 April and 30 November each year on a designated part of the South Field at Bicton Park.

The stables will provide facilities for equestrian events at the arena, but conditions attached to the permission limit events to 50 days annually to minimise disruption. The structures must be dismantled outside the April-November period to preserve the rural character of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Other conditions require green canvas roofs on the stables and restrictions to the defined South Field area.

Pete Thomas from Bell Cornwell prepared the application on behalf of Clinton Devon Estates. He worked positively with the Council to ensure all planning concerns were appropriately addressed. The temporary structures will support the continuation of equestrian tradition at the historic arena whilst protecting the special landscape setting.

With Bell Cornwell as your planning partner, you can unlock hidden value and maximize financial returns from your existing properties. Our knowledge of policies and proven track record navigating the system ensures the highest chance of securing planning permission.
